Braley: China Decision to Ban Iowa Pork is a "Slap in the Face to Iowa Farmers"

Press Release

Date: May 20, 2009
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

Today, Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) released the following statement on China's reported ban of Iowa pork imports:

"Iowa pork-and all pork for that matter-is safe to eat. You can't catch H1N1 flu from pork products. China's decision to ban Iowa pork imports is clearly not based on science, but on economic self-interest. Their actions only help feed fear about the H1N1 flu virus and hurt the Iowa economy.

"This decision is a slap in the face to Iowa farmers. It should be immediately reversed."
