Serrano Hails Bronx Transportation Stimulus Projects

News Article

This week, Congressman Serrano applauded the inclusion in the economic recovery package of funding for big ticket transportation items in the Bronx. Many of his long-time priorities will be addressed in the Hunts Point and Port Morris communities, as well as several other projects.

"I am particularly pleased to hear that many of the projects that I have championed over the past decade in The Bronx will be getting a big boost from the Economic Recovery Act," said Serrano. "Funding improvements in Hunts Point and Port Morris to the tune of $48 million is music to my ears. Between the build out of the South Bronx Greenway, the completion of the bike and pedestrian path to Randall's Island, improvements to the Hunts Point waterfront, and upgrades to the area around the food distribution center, it seems that many of the projects I have supported over the years have been greatly enhanced by these additional funds. I'm very pleased.

"There will also be street repairs throughout the Bronx, as well as lead paint mitigation on the Bruckner. All these projects will benefit us all both through the investment in our neighborhoods and also through the jobs that they will create. I applaud the City DOT for including these vital projects in their funding priorities."
