Hare Statement on Earth Day
Congressman Phil Hare (D-IL) today released the following statement commemorating Earth Day.
"Earth Day is a reminder of our moral obligation to leave the planet in better shape than we found it. Many of my constituents already do this every day by using less, conserving more, and living environmentally conscious lives. But for too long, the federal government hasn't followed suitpursuing an outdated energy policy that increased our dependence on foreign oil and accelerated climate change.
"Today, we are moving in a new direction. Congress has already made historic investments in clean, renewable Midwestern energy. This week, the Energy and Commerce Committee began hearings on comprehensive climate change legislation. I am committed to working with President Obama and my colleagues in Congress to make America energy independent, reduce global warming, and in the process create millions of green jobs that cannot be outsourced."
