Hare Praises Obama's Commitment to Electronic Records for Veterans
Congressman Phil Hare (D-IL) today released the following statement after President Obama announced that the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) have taken the first step in creating a Joint Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record.
"Creating a seamless transition between DOD and VA will reduce medical errors, improve the overall quality of care, and ensure our veterans are being treated in a timely fashion. Most Americans would probably be surprised that a system like this is not already in place. But our veterans are not. They know all too well the shortcomings of navigating paper records through 2 agencies that have a history of failing to communicate with each other. This announcement combined with the President's support for advanced appropriations and recent passage of a budget that increases funding for veterans programs by 11.5 percent shows just how committed he is to our nation's heroes."
