Rehberg Sets Sights on Protecting Gun Rights

Montana's Congressman, Denny Rehberg, has introduced a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives to officially disavow the gun control licensing and registration scheme proposed by the "Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009," sponsored by Representative Bobby Rush. The Rush bill contains sweeping gun control measures such as universal background checks, a federal firearm licensing requirement and the creation of a federal database to track firearm purchases.

"When it comes to gun control Montanans don't mince words; you can't have our guns so don't even think about trying to take them," said Rehberg a member of the House Appropriations Committee and a member of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus. "This bill keeps us on the offense which is where we need to be now that extremist gun control advocates are in positions of power in Washington, D.C. If we let up for even a second, they will take full advantage and undermine our Second Amendment rights."

Earlier this month, Congressman Rehberg blasted Rep. Rush's proposed legislation on the floor of the U.S. House as an affront to liberty and the Constitution. This video and a detailed description of what the bill would do are posted to a special online resource hosted on Rehberg's official website: http://www.house.gov/rehberg/guncontrol.html. Additionally, Rehberg created a Facebook Group opposing this measure. In a little more than a week, the group has well over 1,000 members.

"I have known for a long time that we in Montana can count on Denny to stand up for our 2nd Amendment rights, as he has done in the past," said one member of a pro-Second Amendment Facebook group created by Rehberg. "We cannot let even one small fragment of our constitutional rights be compromised or taken away."
