STATEMENT OF SENATOR EDWARD M. KENNEDY ON SENATE PASSAGE OF THE FISCAL YEAR 2010 BUDGET RESOLUTION

Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, today released the following statement on the Senate passage of the Fiscal Year 2010 Budget Resolution:

"A budget isn't just about numbers. It's about people, and its impact is measured by the security and opportunity it offers to persons and families seeking a brighter tomorrow. The Senate-passed budget ends a long era of irresponsible and misguided economic policies and once again puts working men and women and their families first by charting a better course for our nation. Especially important, it's a realistic blueprint for restoring the promise of the American dream - getting people back to work, ending our energy crisis, improving education for millions of students, and at long last achieving the goal of quality, affordable health care for all Americans. I commend President Obama and Chairman Conrad for their leadership and vision in developing this budget, and I look forward to working with them in the weeks and months ahead to accomplish each of these important goals."
