CEDILLO EARNS 100% ON CALIFORNIA LABOR FEDERATION LEGISLATIVE SCORECARD

Sen. Gilbert Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) earned a perfect score on the California Labor Federation annual legislative scorecard released Thursday. Cedillo was among only nine state senators with the 100% rating for 2008.

"We have a long history with the labor movement in this state and I am proud to continue that work in the legislature. We've fought to preserve county jobs and secure funding for an ailing public healthcare system in Los Angeles and passed laws that protect police, fire, healthcare workers and teachers across the state in the legislature," said Cedillo.

Cedillo was president of one of the largest locals in the union, SEIU Local 660 now Local 721, which represented Los Angeles county workers from 1991 through 1996. He rose through the ranks to serve as president of the union during a county funding crisis and was widely credited with securing $364 million in federal funding saving thousands of jobs and the county public health system. Since serving in the state legislature he has authored over 25 major labor related bills including a state neutrality law that was argued in the U.S. Supreme Court.
