SEN. REID: It is good to be with Prime Minister Rudd today. His great country is one of our most important partners in returning the global economy to a position of strength.

I first want to thank Australia for its support in Afghanistan. We appreciate the sacrifice and strength of its troops and we know a strong coalition is critical to our success in this important mission. I also want to express my sympathy to the Australian people for their losses during the devastating fires last month, and my condolences to the families who lost loved ones.

We have long said we are all in this economic crisis together. All Americans, from all walks of life and all parts of the country, are suffering. The same is true beyond our borders - the success of the American economy and that of the global economy are one and the same. No country is insulated from this worldwide crisis, and the only way we will recover is by working together.

We recently passed a strong economic recovery plan here in America that is starting to create jobs, and we continue our efforts to get credit flowing again to businesses and consumers alike. I look forward to working with Australia and the rest of the G-20 to do the same on a larger, global scale.

END.
