Senator Hagan Joins Bipartisan U.S. Senate National Guard Caucus

Press Release

Committed to ensuring North Carolina's voice is heard in the Senate, U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (D-NC) announced today that she has joined the Moderate Dems Working Group, a coalition of 15 moderate Democrats that will meet regularly to shape public policy. The Moderate Dems working group will work with the Senate leadership and President Barack Obama to develop common-sense solutions to America's most urgent national issues.

The group formed as the result of a shared commitment to pursuing moderate, mainstream solutions on issues ranging from fiscal responsibility, to keeping our country safe, health care reform, improving our education system, developing sustainable energy policies and addressing our housing crisis.

"I am proud to join the Moderate Dems Working Group so North Carolina's hard-working families will have a seat at the table," Hagan said. "North Carolinians are the mainstream of America, and while serving in the state senate I worked hard to be a consensus-builder who got the job done for the people of my state. In the U.S. Senate, I look forward to working with my colleagues, from both sides of the aisle, to give North Carolina's working families a voice in Washington.

"North Carolinians elected me in November to stand up for their interests, not solely for my party's interests. Working with the Moderate Dems, I look forward to finding common-sense solutions to the greatest challenges we face and breaking the political gridlock that, for too long, has characterized politics-as-usual in Washington. "

The Moderate Dems held their second meeting Tuesday to discuss the upcoming budget negotiations and the importance of passing a fiscally responsible spending plan in the Senate. They will meet every other week to discuss legislative strategies and ideas.
