U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today released the following statement applauding the passage of S.39, marking the end of the "Bennett Freeze:"
"I applaud the Senate for repealing the "Bennett Freeze," and urge my colleagues in the House to do the same. Enactment of this legislation will bring the much needed closure to an unfortunate saga, and usher in a new era of tribal relations between the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe," said Senator John McCain. "Moreover, families living in the "Bennett Freeze" zone would be given the opportunity to improve their living conditions, which haven't changed since the "Freeze" was first imposed - over 40 years ago."
