Titus Votes to Block Congressional Pay Raise

Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada's Third District released the following statement today on her vote to block a Congressional pay raise. The provision to block the raise was included in the rule for the Omnibus Appropriations Act. Titus also cosponsored legislation to stop the automatic pay raise Members of Congress were set to receive in 2010.

"Last night, President Obama called for a new era of responsibility and accountability. Today, the House took heed of that message by voting to block a pay raise for Members of Congress at a time when our nation faces an economic crisis.

"Unemployment in my district has reached record levels, the highest in 25 years, and could continue to rise during this recession. Families are tightening their belts and too many hard-working Nevadans are desperate to find a job. It would be unconscionable during this time of economic hardship for Members of Congress to receive an automatic pay raise. Our action today will send a message to the American people that this Congress is serious about putting our economy on the path to recovery and restoring economic security for all Americans."
