Governor Baldacci Celebrates Grand Opening of 300 Ton Wood Pellet Depot

Governor John E. Baldacci today celebrated the grand opening of a 300-ton wood pellet depot at The Heutz Oil Facility in Lewiston. The facility is the second regional pellet storage facility in the State.

"We must move forward with decreasing our dependency on foreign, expensive and polluting energy," Governor Baldacci said. "Kicking the oil habit will keep valuable financial resources of hard working Maine families and businesses here in the State, and we will decrease harmful carbon emissions. It will also create and sustain new green businesses and jobs right here in Maine."

The Governor congratulated Tim Heutz, Vice President of Heutz Oil, and Maine Energy Systems Principle Les Otten, who were both at the grand opening. Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert and Auburn Mayor John Jenkins also offered congratulations at the celebration.

The Governor said that work being done by both the public and private sectors is making a difference environmentally and economically in Maine.

"Having the private sector fully engaged in this area is critical to achieving our long-term goals of ensuring that more of the dollars of our hardworking Maine families stay here in the State, and that our environment is protected," the Governor said. "We'll grow industries and jobs in the emerging environment and energy sectors and we'll build it all right here in Maine."
