Congressman Paul Hodes' Statement on the release of President Obama's Budget
Congressman Paul Hodes released the following statement on President Obama releasing his budget proposal for FY 2010.
"The President has released his preliminary budget. I look forward to working with him and other members of Congress as we make critical decisions to create more jobs; reinvest in health care, alternative energy and education; and work to cut the deficit to ensure that we are not leaving too much debt for our children and grandchildren. After eight years of deficit spending without investing for the future, we need to take a fine tooth comb to the budget and make sure we are not spending billions on wasteful government programs that won't create jobs, rebuild our economy, and improve America's stature throughout the globe.
I also remain concerned that the President has proposed additional funding for the Troubled Asset Relief Program for banks and financial institutions. This program has lacked sufficient oversight and accountability from its outset, and in recent weeks we have seen new examples of abuse within the program, like the waste of taxpayer dollars by Northern Trust.
The budget President Obama released today is a starting point to begin these important discussions in the weeks ahead."
