Lamborn Calls for Common Sense Solutions to Nation's Problems

On the opening day of the 111th Congress, Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) called on Congress to act in a fiscally responsible way to address the nation's economic problems.

"Clearly, the economy is on everyone's mind. The American people expect Congress to take action to address the loss of jobs and the drop in retirement and college savings accounts. Many families are hurting and looking for help.

"However, I am not convinced President-elect Obama's proposed massive spending spree is the solution. History shows that government spending can actually slow down the market's inherent ability to recover. If anything, the government should be proposing significant tax cuts - pervasive, predictable and permanent - as a way to stimulate economic growth.

"Additionally, it is important we don't balance the budget on the back of our military forces. We tried that during the Clinton years, with disastrous consequences. Following years of neglect, today much of our military hardware still needs replacing and updating.

"I am hopeful this new Congress will be fiscally responsible in addressing our nation's economic problems. Trying times call for the best in all of us. We must move forward boldly with our best ideas and efforts. I am confident in the strength and resilience of the American worker to create new jobs and a more prosperous tomorrow." - Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
