Landrieu Reflects on 200th Birthday of President Lincoln

Highlights importance of Lincoln's example as nation celebrates Black History Month.

United States Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La., today reflected on the 200th birthday of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Sen. Landrieu said:

"On this day, President Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday, we reflect on the tremendous progress we have made together in the last two centuries and look forward to what the future holds for this great nation. Lincoln's courage helped abolish slavery and held our nation together in its darkest hours. His commitment to equality and justice paved the path for our current civil rights leaders, and for our President, Barack Obama.

"On his 200th birthday, we can best honor President Lincoln by looking to his example of acting boldly in times of crisis -- to not fear change but to inspire it. "
