Recovery Plan Will Allow 128,000 More Ohioans to Attend College

Praising the long-term economic investment higher education represents for Southern and Eastern Ohio, Congressman Zack Space (OH-18) today encouraged swift action on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which expands the Hope Credit to 128,000 more Ohioans attending college.

The Recovery plan will make part of the Hope Credit "refundable," allowing 128,000 more Ohio families to send their children to college.

"I have said it before, and I will say it again - one of the best investments we can make in our long-term economic stability is education," Space said. "All children who want to go to college should have a chance to do so regardless of how much their family earns."

"This provision offers a real opportunity for young people to obtain the college degree they need and deserve. If we want to pull our regional economy back from the brink, we will need as many trained, educated workers as possible, and this change will help make that possible for thousands of Ohioans," Space continued.

The House version of the recovery plan passed last week. The Senate is currently considering the legislation.

Congressman Space has represented Ohio's 18th Congressional District since 2007. He is working to restore integrity to the office, expand Ohio's economy, and support renewable energy.
