Senators Chuck Grassley and Tom Harkin today reintroduced legislation to name the Federal Courthouse in Davenport the "James A. Leach United State Courthouse" in honor of former Congressman Jim Leach. Leach served Southeast Iowans in the House of Representatives from 1977 until 2007.

"Jim Leach was one of the most honest and well respected voices in Congress for more than 30 years," Grassley said. "He is as decent and honorable as they get and I thought it would be fitting that his hometown courthouse bear the name of one of Iowa's great political leaders."

"Jim Leach has shown himself to be thoughtful, dedicated and effective public servant for over 30 years," Harkin said. "His passionate commitment to our state and the nation is undeniable and we cannot thank him enough for his service."

The bill will be referred to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. Leach is a graduate of Princeton University and Johns Hopkins University. He is a native of Davenport.
