Hare Praises President Obama's Pro-Worker Executive Orders

Congressman Phil Hare (D-IL), a member of the House Education and Labor Committee and a former union shop steward, today released the following statement after President Obama signed three executive orders seeking to strengthen collective bargaining rights for federal employees and one creating a Middle Class Taskforce.

"Today's executive orders are proof that the plight of American workers will no longer fall on deaf ears. The Bush White House and its absentee Secretary of Labor spent 8 years eroding the fundamental rights of workers. No single stroke of the pen can undo that damage, but today's executive orders are a great start.

"In addition, it is time for Senate Republicans to stop delaying the nomination of Congresswoman Hilda Solis as Labor Secretary. She is qualified and deserves confirmation. Workers went without an advocate at the Department for the last 8 years. Now more than ever, they need someone to stand up for them. It is time for Republicans to stop playing politics and bring her nomination to a vote."
