TOASTS TO PRESIDENT OBAMA AND VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN AT THE POST-INAUGURATION LUNCHEON, LED BY SENATOR DIANNE FEINSTEIN (D-CA) AND SENATE MAJORITY LEADER HARRY REID (D-NV)

SEN. REID: Vice President Biden, I've been asked to give a toast to you. Only one other time in history has a senator and a senator simultaneously been elected president and vice president; my predecessor Lyndon Johnson, and John Kennedy.

Barack Obama, when he served in the Senate, served on the prestigious Foreign Relations Committee. Where else would he go to find the best teammate he could find than the person that ran that committee, Joe Biden. Joe Biden has set an example -- for me, everyone that's ever served with him in the Senate -- as a person who is a teammate, first of all, a counselor, an advocate, a friend, an exemplar.

So it's my toast that this will continue, Mr. Vice President; that you'll continue being what you have been, to our new president. Barack Obama, Joe Biden: the dream team. Godspeed.

(Those assembled toast Vice President Biden.)

SEN. FEINSTEIN: And now I would like to propose a toast to the new president of the United States.

Mr. President, Mrs. Obama, so much rests on your shoulders -- our hopes, our dreams, the future of this country. We have watched you. We see the equanimity, we see the dedication, we see the balance. And I think the sense of all of us in this room is that this nation is in good hands.

May those hands remain stable and steady. May those hands always be well. May you and your family be blessed with the love of the American people. And may we in government be your partner in the future of this great country.

We salute you, Mr. President.

(Those assembled toast President Obama.)

END.
