DAVIS IGNORES LOCAL DEBATES ENTIRELY, LAMBASTED BY STANDARD

The Southern Standard newspaper in McMinnville ripped Democratic incumbent Lincoln Davis this week for failing to show up for not one, but two opportunities to debate conservative challenger Monty Lankford.

"Lincoln Davis obviously doesn't feel our political forum is important," said Standard publisher Patricia Zechman. "If you're going to ask the people of Warren County to vote for you, you should take the time to come here and tell us where you stand on the issues." (Southern Standard 10/5)

When asked for a response, Monty Lankford said that, "Lincoln has nothing to gain politically by talking openly with the 4th District, because he'll be running for Governor in January if he wins this election."

"It has been 37 days since I challenged Davis to an open debate to defend his record, and the only response we've received is an unsigned letter saying that he's too busy," said Lankford.

"This man won't make time to appear publicly before his constituents, won't have an honest conversation about his voting record and won't even sign his own letters," said Lankford. "What kind of Congressman is that?"

Lankford sent letters to each of Davis's office well over a month ago, challenging Davis to a debate "anywhere, anytime and anyplace." Lankford has confirmed that he will be present this coming Saturday for a debate in Columbia. So far, Davis has not confirmed.

Lankford, a life-long Tennessean and local businessman in Franklin, paid his way through Free Will Baptist Bible College with a welding job. Lankford will face Davis in the general election on November 4th.
