"No Show Davis" 0 For 4 In Public Debates

Press Release

"NO SHOW DAVIS" 0 FOR 4 IN PUBLIC DEBATES

Lankford for Congress

The Columbia Daily Herald published an article Sunday, pointing out a growing trend by Congressman Lincoln Davis. Congressman Lincoln Davis failed to show up for a third public debate this month against Republican opponent Monty Lankford.

This time Davis ignored a public forum with voters in one of the largest, most important counties in Tennessee's 4th Congressional district. "Davis' camp issued a statement Friday, after delaying the decision for almost two weeks, saying he would not be attending the event sponsored by The Daily Herald." (Columbia Daily Herald 10/12/08)

Davis has declined a fourth debate scheduled for Tuesday evening in McMinnville. When asked for a response, Republican opponent Monty Lankford stated that Davis "could care less about letting the people of this district know where he stands on any issue."

Davis's absence has been triggering a backlash in the district. A week ago, the Southern Standard's publisher Patricia Zechman wrote a scathing front page article criticizing Davis after he failed to show up for two debates. "Lincoln Davis obviously doesn't feel our political forum is important," said Zechman. "If you're going to ask the people to vote for you, you should take the time to come here and tell us where you stand on the issues." (Southern Standard 10/5)

"This is a critical time for our country and our state, and yet Davis doesn't even feel that the people deserve to hear or see him," said Lankford. "The bottom line is that he can't defend his vote for Nancy Pelosi, his vote AGAINST the troop surge, his vote to cut Medicare benefits and open the door for illegal immigrants, and he can't defend his vote to give illegal immigrants driver's licenses."

Lankford, a life-long Tennessean and local businessman in Franklin, paid his way through Free Will Baptist Bible College with a welding job. Lankford will face Davis in the general election on November 4th.
