Through my years of service, I have been dedicated to helping preserve Nebraska's agricultural way of life. It is a way of life for generations who have made Nebraska home and who have fed our nation. Now, more than ever, our farmers and ranchers need a representative who has the qualifications and dedication to fight for our ag producers.

Agriculture contributes more than $12 billion to Nebraska's economy, with one in three jobs in our state being tied to the agricultural industry.

As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I have worked to pass a responsible and workable Farm Bill. From the outset, I have been a proponent for a forward-looking, fiscally-responsible Farm Bill.

Unfortunately, this process has been delayed, leaving farmers and ranchers to enter the planting season without any certainty or promise of support they count on to continue their operations.

Our farmers and ranchers need a Farm Bill, and they are counting on Congress to deliver.

I also am dedicated to doing everything possible to encourage growth in our rural areas. By serving on the House Subcommittee on Specialty Crops, Rural Development, and Foreign Agriculture, I have the opportunity to work on pressing issues facing our rural communities - such as aging populations, access to health care, and economic development.

Land values in Nebraska continue to soar, creating barriers for new businesses as well as young farmers and ranchers just starting out.

In that light, I have introduced the Rural Incentives for Vibrant Economies and a Sustainable Tomorrow Act (or the Rural INVEST Act for short). The legislation is designed to help protect and revitalize rural communities by providing a tax incentive for new businesses.

I have also cosponsored the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Act, a bill which would make it easier for older farmers and ranchers to pass on their land to the younger generation - not big business.

As a member of the House Economic Competitiveness Caucus, I have the opportunity to explore new ideas and legislation to help our rural communities grow and thrive.

Nebraska's Third Congressional District should be proud of our agricultural heritage and the horizons we have yet to cross. Working together, I look forward to helping our ag producers reach new levels of prosperity.
