JIM MARSHALL CURRENT ENERGY AD IS NOT AN ENERGY STRATEGY, IT'S AND ELECTION STRATEGY

THE CONGRESSIONAL RECORD IS CLEAR -
MARSHALL HAS FAILED TO LEAD ON ENERGY ISSUES

(WARNER ROBINS, GA) - Rick Goddard, Republican nominee for Congress in Georgia's 8th District, today documented Democrat incumbent Congressman Jim Marshall's energy television ad as nothing more than election year pandering to hide his real record on energy reform.

"It's bad enough that Jim Marshall has repeatedly opposed efforts to open up Alaska and offshore fields to domestic production," said Goddard. "But it's ethically bankrupt to mislead voters by running television ads claiming to support the very same drilling proposals that he's spent his entire Congressional career opposing. Yet that's what politicians do when they are trying to save their political careers - tell voters one thing in order to obscure their failures in Washington. And that's exactly why Georgians are so cynical of career politicians."

The Congressional Record proves that on energy, Marshall's six years in Washington have been marginalized by a lack of leadership and a lack of judgment. Now that it is an election year and Jim Marshall is in trouble, he has flooded the airwaves with his latest ad in which he deliberately attempts to cover-up his failed voting record in Congress.

The energy crisis that America now faces did not just happen overnight. For years, politicians in Washington have ignored the warnings from the mid 1970s and America's dependence on foreign oil has only increased since then. Those in Washington showed a lack of leadership by not seeing the energy crisis coming or just didn't care.

When given the opportunity to move America towards energy independence, Marshall repeatedly blocked or voted against drilling in Alaska and offshore, despite Georgians paying $2.24 a gallon more at the pump since Marshall was elected in 2002.

And now, Marshall puts up a television ad and shamefully attempts to obscure the truth about his consistent opposition to developing the full spectrum of energy options available to protect our national security and economic well being.

In his television ad, Marshall says "Everyone knows what's happening with gas and diesel prices is just plain wrong. We should drill offshore and in Alaska."

The Congressional Record shows Marshall voted overwhelmingly against drilling for our own resources - 13 times against or to block proposals that would allow drilling in Alaska and 11 times in regards to offshore drilling.

"As I've traveled across the 8th District, the one thing I keep hearing from voters is that they're fed up with self-serving politicians who are more interested in preserving their political careers than moving our country forward. Instead, Georgians tell me they're looking for leaders who'll take charge and find solutions to the tough challenges facing this country. They won't be fooled by Marshall's empty election-year rhetoric. "
