A governor who hunts and fishes was chosen by Senator John McCain as his running mate this week. Sarah Palin, the first female governor of Alaska, will join Senator McCain on the campaign trail as the Republican National Convention approaches.
State Representative Tom Casperson is enthusiastic about McCain's pick. "I'm glad that Senator McCain has chosen someone unexpected who represents a commitment to real change. If Governor Palin understands Alaska, she will understand Northern Michigan. She will be a great advocate for us on issues like energy, resource use, lower taxes, ethics, and family values in Washington. Like me, she is a member of the NRA. I am looking forward to inviting Governor Palin to Northern Michigan, a place where I'm confident she will feel right at home. Maybe we could do some hunting together."
Prior to being elected to the State House, Casperson worked in his family's log trucking business for 27 years, including 12 years as owner and operator of Casperson and Son Trucking. He represented the third generation in the business started by his grandfather.
Currently a term-limited state representative, Casperson announced his candidacy against Congressman Stupak on March 17, 2008.
