Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

In keeping with efforts to make sure all Ohioans receive their economic stimulus payment, representatives from the Internal Revenue Service and Congressman Space's (OH-18) office met on Monday at the John McIntire Library in Zanesville to assist residents in filing tax returns in order to claim their checks.

"It is crucial that residents in Ohio's 18th Congressional District and throughout the state claim the economic stimulus checks that are rightfully theirs," Space said. "With so many checks still outstanding, it was clear that people simply needed some help filing their tax returns to claim the money they deserve."

"The event on Monday was a huge success, and many residents who may not have benefited from the economic stimulus package will now be able to enjoy their checks," Space said.

According to recent reports, some 200,000 Ohioans have yet to claim their economic stimulus checks. That amounts to hundreds of thousands of dollars left on the table as opposed to in the pockets of residents. Congressman Space has made it a priority to assist residents of the 18th Congressional District in claiming that money before the October 15th deadline. Eligible recipients needed to file 2007 tax returns in order to collect their checks. Many eligible recipients do not normally file annual tax returns.

Congressman Space has represented Ohio's 18th Congressional District since 2007. He is working to restore integrity to the office, expand Ohio's economy, and support renewable energy.
