Porter Statement on Emergency Economic Relief Package

Press Release

Date: Sept. 29, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

Today Congressman Porter released the following statement regarding his vote on the Economic Relief Package:

"My constituents are hurting, frightened and angry. We are facing one of the greatest economic downturns in Nevada's history. Families are losing their homes, individuals are losing their jobs, businesses are shutting their doors and banks are collapsing.

"The time for action is now. All indications show that this downward trend will only worsen if Congress fails to act. Nevadans are now facing a massive credit crunch. School loans will be out of reach for students wishing to continue their education and businesses may not be able to make payroll. Nevadans will not be able to purchase homes and finding the resources to purchase a car will be nearly impossible. Those of us who supported the legislation today realized that we cannot sit back and watch our friends and neighbors suffer more than they already have. What may have started as a crisis on Wall Street is now a crisis on Main Street."
