KHAS - "US Senate Candidates are commenting on the bailout plan"

Two US Senate Candidates are commenting on that $700 billion bailout plan. Both Mike Johanns and Scott Kleeb say it is not the way the banking crisis should be handled.

Johanns the Republican candidate said the banking situation and problems on Wall Street stem from a few people making poor decisions. He does not think taxpayers and people here in Nebraska should be held responsible.

"They should pay for this, not the US taxpayer. The US taxpayer should get a net benefit over time in terms of how we deal with this," said Mike Johanns.

Democrat candidate Scott Kleeb said for almost a decade Washington has given Wall Street what they have wanted and demanded no accountability. He said that needs to stop.

"We have to rethink our failed economic policies. That means real restrictions on executive compensation for any company that directly benefits from the bailout, and real transparency on any new spending," said Scott Kleeb.
