Statement of Idaho Senator Larry Craig on the Financial Services Stabilization Proposal
Idaho Senator Larry Craig today issued the following statement following a briefing of the Senate Republican caucus by Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson on the financial services stabilization proposal:
"I know of nothing more important to Main Street than Congress' careful and deliberative consideration of Secretary Paulson's extraordinary proposal - which is intended to keep families in their homes, keep small businesses afloat, and keep Americans working. By any measure, this is the most important taxpayer issue to come before the Congress since I was elected to the House of Representatives in 1980.
"I hope that the Congress will continue to thoughtfully review the proposal, even if it means remaining in session another week or longer to do so. This plan has not been finalized, and neither has my position on it. I'm confident that my Senate colleagues are not feeling rushed and that we will take the time we need to act in a responsible, judicious way, with the protection of every taxpayer foremost in our minds."
