I hope that you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I had a fantastic time with my family. It is such a joy to spend time with my children and grandchildren. Memorial Day is not just an excuse to have a three day weekend, however. I hope that you took at least a few moments to remember the true meaning behind Memorial Day. It is a day to honor all those men & women in uniform who have given the ultimate sacrifice to defend this great country and the freedoms that we enjoy. Let us never take that for granted. Our nation is free today because of these brave Americans who laid down their lives. The best way that we can pay respect is to value why their sacrifice was made.

God Bless the U.S.A. ~ Bill
A Look at Florida's 15th Congressional District

Florida's 15th Congressional District includes most of Brevard and Osceola Counties, all of Indian River County, and a small portion of Polk County. Covering over 3,200 square miles, District 15 is the 5th largest congressional district in Florida based on population with over 743,000 (2005 est.) people. From its sparkling water and sandy beaches to its lush agricultural lands, the district spans some of Florida's most attractive regions.

With its diverse geography, Florida's 15th Congressional District also has a varied economic environment. Due in part to the Kennedy Space Center and Patrick Air Force Base, the district is home to a number of aerospace and high-tech industries such as Harris Corporation, Lockheed-Martin, and Piper. We are also home to a large agricultural industry. The last U.S. Department of Agriculture census showed over 1,300 farms with 112 of those farms consisting of 1,000 acres or more. Livestock and citrus are the two main components of our agricultural industry. District 15's abundant sunshine, beautiful beaches, and long stretch of the Indian River Lagoon - the most biologically diverse estuary in North America - also create a thriving tourism industry.

A closer look at the demographics of the District reveals that 42.3% of the 448,681 registered voters are Republicans. The Independent/other party/no party population is growing and now makes up 21.5% of the voters. Brevard County has the most registered voters in the district, followed by Osceola, however Indian River County has the highest percentage of registered Republicans at 50.1%.

Bill Posey needs YOUR help!

The key to any successful campaign has been, and always will be, a coordinated grassroots effort. The Bill Posey for Congress campaign knows that and plans to rely heavily on grassroots campaigning over the next several months. The success of this campaign will be determined by the strength of its volunteers. We will be depending on volunteers to walk precincts, help with mailings, make phone calls, join our yard sign team, work in the campaign office, wave signs, and help at voter registration drives.

Additionally, the Posey for Congress campaign will be looking for coalition leaders. Individuals who are not only willing to volunteer, but to help reach voters on a local level and help spread the word about Senator Posey and his bid for Congress. If you are a member of other, non-republican clubs such as veterans clubs or home owners associations, even book clubs, church groups, etc. you would be ideal to really help let others know that Bill Posey is the right candidate for District 15 while recruiting additional supporters.

Senator Posey would be honored to have your help on his congressional campaign. If you live in the Brevard area, please join us for a Campaign Leadership meeting on Saturday, June 7th from 10 to 11 am at Posey Campaign Headquarters, 2525 Aurora Rd. Suite 102, Melbourne, FL 32935. Come discuss opportunities to get involved in the campaign with Senator Posey and his campaign staff. To RSVP or for more information, please contact Ashley Hughes at (321) 254-6282 or at ahughes@billposey.com. For those of you in Indian River, Osceola, and Polk Counties, we will be holding similar meetings in each of your areas in the near future so please be on the lookout for those announcements.
