WALSH STATEMENT ON ELJAY APARTMENT BID PACKAGE RELEASE

For the past two months, the City of Syracuse and the Department of Housing and Urban Development have worked together to develop auction rules for the former Eljay apartments that will protect the investments of city neighbors, remediate lackluster properties, and adhere to federal law.

The auction - which will be held on December 3rd - will be open only to established, nonprofit housing entities, and the purchaser may choose to redevelop the entire project or sell and subdivide the properties into affordable or market rate units.

I thank HUD officials for their demonstrated flexibility and recognize the City's perseverance in finding a solution that compliments neighborhood interests. I'm proud to have been a part of this successful negotiation.
