Issues: Oil and Gas

As gas approaches $5 a gallon, many people in our congressional district are finding it extremely difficult to afford commuting to work, running a business or transporting their family to childcare, the doctor or school. Higher oil prices are also impacting the entire economy - everything from fertilizer to food to plastic is more expensive. Our public services, such as police and firefighters, are seeing more of their budgets consumed by the cost of fuel. Even charitable organizations, such as Meals on Wheels, are finding it harder to serve those in need. Immediate action is necessary to bring down oil prices.

Congressman Thompson believes we need a strategy to address the fuel crisis - one that includes both short-term solutions for gas prices and a long-term energy policy that reduces our dependence on oil.

He recently sent a letter to President Bush outlining some short- and long-term ideas.
