Issue Position: Hellenic Caucus

Issue Position

I joined with my colleague Michael Bilirakis (R-FL) to found the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues, and I have served as Co-Chair of the Caucus since its founding in 1996. The mission of the Caucus is to facilitate improved relations between America and Greece and to ensure that critical issues affecting people of Greek descent - whether they live in Greece, Cyprus, or here in the U.S. - are appropriately addressed.

In particular, I and the other members of the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues have focuses on ending the conflict and division on Cyprus, as well as the entry of Cyprus in the European Union; foreign aid to Greece and Cyprus; America's relationship with the Republic of Macedonia, which previously constituted part of the former Yugoslavia; and other important developments in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions.

I look forward to the day when all the island's residents are reunited under a democratically elected government that treats every Cypriot with justice and compassion and that respects basic human rights, including property rights.
