By Sen. Cornyn's office

U.S. Senator John Cornyn today called on Congress to act on legislation that will lower gas prices and facilitate America's energy independence. Senator Cornyn discussed various issues important to the residents in the region at a luncheon at the Dora Roberts Community Center in Big Spring.

"High gas prices particularly harm families in the Permian Basin, where driving is a requirement," Senator Cornyn said. "I have long advocated increasing the supply of American-made energy to help provide relief at the pump."

Senator Cornyn added: "I have a clear, effective position on energy: All of the above. Congress should allow development in ANWR, offshore and western shale areas. We must also continue aggressive pursuit of alternative sources like nuclear, wind, solar and clean coal. This issue has bogged down in partisan gridlock, but I'll continue working with both parties for a solution."

Senator Cornyn also highlighted the vital role the Big Spring VA facility plays in serving veterans in the region. "I was proud to work with the Texas congressional delegation to help keep the Big Spring VA Hospital open. When our service members return home, we must provide them the best health care, benefits and support."
