Issue Position

Congressman Reichert recognizes that the United State's position as the premiere innovative force in is in jeopardy. He believes the U.S. should be leading and defining the global economy. He supports strengthening our nation's competitive position in the world through improvements to math and science education; ensuring that Washington businesses have an adequate supply of skilled labor; and advancing the trade measures needed to continue to accelerate the growth of our high-tech industries.

* Cosponsored legislation to keep our businesses on the forefront of innovation and technological development by ensuring they're able to attract and retain the very best and brightest.
* Supported funding for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education at all levels and increased funding for basic science research.
* Advocate for the passage of free trade agreements with Panama, Colombia, and Korea, which will open new markets for our high-tech companies and have the potential to bring billions of dollars and thousands of new jobs into our state's economy.
* Cosponsored legislation making research and development tax credits permanent in order to keep American companies competitive in a tough global economy.
* Lead cosponsor of a measure encouraging the adoption of electronic medical records to prevent serious medical errors and reduce wasteful and duplicative health care costs.
* Lead cosponsor of legislation to reverse the Federal Communications Commission's decision to relax its media consolidation rules, which could have serious consequences on the quality and diversity of programming available to our communities.
* Supports making permanent the Internet tax moratorium; prohibiting states from taxing Internet access and protecting Americans' ability to both share in and contribute to this vast database of information, benefits, and services.
* Supports legislation to permanently repeal the Fairness Doctrine to protect Americans' right to hear and participate in the robust discussion of issues of concern over our nation's airwaves.
