Issue Position: Health Care

Issue Position

I think we can all agree we need some type of health care reform. We should be able to make immediate incremental changes without a costly and complete overhaul of the whole system. We should all have at least catastrophic insurance. We are a compassionate society so we treat individuals in hospitals even without insurance. We can't have it both ways. We either don't treat individuals in hospitals without coverage which would be horrific, or everyone should pay their fair share.

I feel this is a personal responsibility and is not fair to those who are paying the price of insurance for themselves and family members. Having said this, we need affordable health insurance and accessibility to all.

I do feel there is a place for government in the mix, and that is to help subsidize the costs for those who truly need the help. I feel employees who don't receive any contributions from their employer could receive help and employers who do contribute should get tax benefits.

We should eliminate pre-existing conditions and that is another reason why everyone should be in. This would keep people from waiting until they are sick to seek insurance. By denying coverage to willing and honest individuals, and only accepting people that have never been sick or who insurance companies feel will never get sick is what has led to this need for change.

We should be able to qualify for a plan whether we apply as an individual or under an employer sponsored plan. The way it stands now you can be denied as an individual for a plan you would qualify for under your employer.
