Issue Position

Have we lost our way so completely that foreign countries are now in control of our energy supplies? Supplies that have become so costly that it is crippling our economy and driving up the cost of food and all other basic needs while the politicians in Washington capitulate.

That's not the America I grew up in. The America I know is smart and resourceful.

America will take the lead in renewable energy - solar, wind, nuclear, clean coal, hybrid cars. But only with bold, brave leadership. And while we wait for those technologies to come on line we need to protect our economy and national security. We need to send the message that we will make our energy affordable again.

We don't need a windfall tax. We need a law that will require that oil companies invest a good portion of their profits into developing and building new refinery capacity. Let the world know that America can and will produce more of its own gas.

We need to loosen, in some commonsense way, the restrictions that deny us from exploring for many of our own natural resource. We are in a crisis here. The choices we make will be tough ones.

We have prospered because we have been bold and brave in the face of adversity. It's time for our elected leaders to have the courage to stand up and tackle the high cost of energy.
