Exxon Mobil Announces Record Profits; Dahlkemper Decries Washington Gridlock on Energy

Small business owner Kathy Dahlkemper, the Democratic nominee for Congress in Pennsylvania's Third District, today responded to Thursday's announcement that Exxon Mobil had made the largest quarterly profit in American history by calling for a change in how energy policy is made in Washington.

Dahlkemper remarked, "For years, we've seen a cycle that's not working for families in Western Pennsylvania. Big Oil gives campaign contributions to the politicians, the politicians give tax breaks to Big Oil and do little to promote alternative, American-made energy, then we pay higher prices at the pump, which increases profits for Exxon and the big oil companies which in turn allows them to give even more money to the politicians, continuing the cycle."

"Unfortunately, Congressman English has been part of the problem in Washington. He's taken $126,000 from Big Oil, including $1000 from Exxon Mobil in May of this year. But it's about more than money - it's that Congressman English has voted in favor of billions of dollars in special tax breaks for the oil companies. Exxon Mobil made more than $11 billion over the past three months - they don't need special tax breaks, consumers in Western Pennsylvania do."

"I call on Congressman English to change his mind and vote to eliminate the tax breaks for oil companies, given their record profits. Let's use that money to help bring down gas prices in the short and long term."
