Issue Position: Economics - Economic Stimulus

Issue Position

The Bipartisan Economic Stimulus Package was a difficult situation.

Everyone with a solid grounding in economics knows that it will not have the desired effect. The people that need it will not purchase the kind of consumer goods that actually drive the American economy. They are going to use it to pay their bills, and rightfully so, as household budgeting is difficult for many in America today. The cost of fuel has risen sharply, which drives up the cost of food because of transportation costs for the manufacturers. A cold winter has left citizens paying utility bills driven sky-high by the ever-increasing cost of natural gas.

But no Congressman is going to go on record as voting against putting extra money into the pockets of their constituents, so while its effectiveness is questionable, there was little doubt that it would actually pass. And I'm glad to have played my part in putting a little extra money in the pockets of my friends and constituents in the Ninth District.
