Wilson's Moving on Up in Congress.org Rankings

Op-Ed

Dear Friends,

Congress.Org recently placed me #179 in the House of Representatives on its Members of Congress power ranking list. There are 435 members of the House. Last year, as a new freshman, I was ranked #290. That means I moved up by 111 positions.

I'm proud to be gaining ground on behalf of the people I represent in Ohio's River Valley. The score is a reflection of my seat on the Financial Services Committee, the more than $6 million dollars I was able to bring home to the District and the bills I've introduced into Congress.

You may not have heard about some of the legislation I've introduced and I wanted to share that list with you.

H.R. 1723, the FHA Fair Appraisals Act
This bill cracks down on inflated home appraisals. It was rolled into the FHA reauthorization bill and passed the House in September. It awaits action in the Senate and could be taken up soon.

H.R. 3647, to delay for 6 months the requirement to use tamper-resistant prescription pads under the Medicaid Program
If the tamper-resistant paper requirement had been enforced on October 1, 2007, Medicaid patients and local pharmacies would have faced serious harm. This legislation delayed that tamper-proof requirement and ensured that patients, pharmacists and doctors had enough time to prepare. This passed both the House and Senate in September and was signed into law.

H.R. 5510, Social Security Fairness for the Terminally Ill Act of 2008
The legislation would eliminate the required five-month waiting period in the Social Security Disability (SSD) program for terminally ill patients. The bill is the companion to legislation introduced last fall by Senator Sherrod Brown in the U.S. Senate.

Congress.org is a "public service Web site" by Capitol Advantage. The site provides information on local, state and federal government officials as well as current legislation and issues facing Congress. To create the rankings, Congress.org considered each Congress member's position, indirect influence, legislative activity and earmarks.

Also, a quick thank you to everyone who participated in my first district-wide telephone town hall meeting last night. 4,533 took part, and apparently most of you liked it as much as I did! During the meeting my moderator asked callers if they liked the format. 98% of those on the call quickly reported that they liked the format by pressing number 4 on their phone.

We're going to do another one of those telephone town hall meetings. It's absolutely wonderful to be able to reach out to so many people.

Thanks again for making it such a success!

Sincerely,

Charlie Wilson
Member of Congress
Ohio's Sixth District
