UDALL WINS FIRST DEBATE; STANDS UP FOR COLORADO ON ENERGY, ECONOMY, NATIONAL SECURITY, AND BIPARTISANSHIP
Congressman and U.S. Senate candidate Mark Udall delivered a strong, pragmatic, and bipartisan vision to get the economy back on track for Colorado families, strengthen national security, and lead America towards energy independence in today's first debate of the U.S. Senate campaign. Udall repeatedly proved he is the only candidate in the race with a consistent record of standing up for Colorado, with a career-long commitment to developing a new energy economy that will lower prices for families, break America's dependence on foreign oil, and create jobs across Colorado.
"People need relief. What we have to do first and foremost is have an energy policy that takes advantage of all the policies in front of us. What we need to get our economy back on track is a comprehensive energy plan," said Udall.
Udall also emphasized his commitment to reaching across the aisle as he has throughout his entire career, focusing on problem-solving over partisan political games.
"When I stand on the divide, when I stand on the mountains, I look out over this state I don't see this community or that community, or that Republicans live there, independents live there, or the green party lives there, I just see Colorado. I see independent, hard-working people and that is how I am going to serve in the Senate," said Udall.
"Mark Udall proved today that he's the one candidate Coloradans can trust to stand up for their interests, not Big Oil and Washington's corporate special interests," said Udall campaign spokeswoman Tara Trujillo. "Mark has a real plan - and a real record - for taking on the gas price energy crisis that's squeezing Colorado families. Unlike his opponent, Mark will be an independent leader to get our economy back on track, because he isn't beholden to the oil industry or to corporations that ship jobs overseas."
Udall highlighted his strong record as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, working to support America's troops while developing a smarter, tougher national security policy that includes a responsible plan to redeploy out of Iraq and re-focus the war on terror where the threats are greatest.
"On issue after issue, Mark Udall proved today that he'll be a Senator who understands the challenges Colorado families are facing and is willing to work with anyone to solve our problems and meet those challenges," said Trujillo. "Mark Udall won this debate with exactly the kind of strong, independent, and hard-working leadership he has always shown in standing up for Colorado."
