Wrap-Up: Burgess Tele-Town Hall on May 20, 2008

Last night's tele-town hall was another success. I called 34,000 of my constituents who reside in the Northeast portion of Tarrant County and over 6,000, or 18%, of you stayed on the line to listen and share your opinions. I took 11 questions from participants, there were 150 individuals who requested to ask a question, and 141 voice messages were left. These numbers speak to your eagerness to be involved in what your federal government is doing. I am proud of that.

It is always a pleasure to have candid conversations with you about the issues and topics that are most important to you and your families in North Texas. In the months to come, I will continue my work in Congress representing the citizens of Texas' 26th District and the topics that concern you, such as:

Providing Americans economic security and growth through tax relief and reform

Enforcing our immigration laws and strengthening our border security to reduce illegal immigration

Ensuring America's national security and support for our Armed Service members

Strengthening America's health care system

Securing Federal funding for North Texas' growing transportation needs

Regulating out-of control spending and reforming our entitlement programs

Last night was the second time I included polls in my tele-town hall. This is an effective way for me to ask questions about important issues - like health care, rising energy prices, and immigration - and get quick answers from you. Three polls were conducted last night, and the questions and results are below:

1. When making health care decisions for you and your family, what is most important?

A) Being able to see my doctor when I want. --- 52%

B) The price of my monthly premiums. --- 40%

C) Seeing a doctor who practices close to where I live. --- 8%

2. What is your plan to address rising energy costs during the coming summer months?

A) Cut out our usual summer trip and drive less - gas prices are too high. --- 52%

B) Use our air conditioner and other household appliances less - electricity is high. --- 34%

C) I don't plan on changing anything - I am prepared to pay higher energy prices. --- 14%

3. Do you believe businesses should be punished for employing workers which they know are not legal citizens of the United States?

A) Yes --- 88%

B) No --- 9%

3) Undecided --- 3%

As always, to stay up-to-date on recent news from my office, please sign-up for the monthly Burgess Bulletin. If you have thoughts about pending legislation, please send me an email through "Write Your Representative".

Again, it is my pleasure to visit with you last night. I appreciate hearing from you, and I am honored to have the opportunity to represent you in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Sincerely,

Michael C. Burgess, M.D.

Proudly Representing Texas' 26th Districta
