DOLE VOTES TO OVERRIDE PRESIDENT'S MEDICARE VETO

Today, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole voted to override President Bush's veto of a measure blocking the Administration's proposed 10.6 percent cut in payments to Medicare providers.

"Doctors across North Carolina have told me how devastating these cuts would be to health care for seniors and the disabled, and I'm pleased there were enough votes to override the President's veto," said Dole.

Background

The Medicare Improvement for Patients and Providers Act passed the House on June 24 and the Senate on July 9. Earlier today, the president vetoed this legislation, sending it back to Congress. The House and Senate then voted to override the veto.

Dole has voted to block these Medicare cuts each time the Senate has brought a Medicare bill to the floor.
