Letter to Carlos Brito, CEO of InBev SA, Re: Honor Promise Not to Cut Jobs at Budweiser Brewery in Baldwinsville

Senator Clinton Urges Belgian Brewing Company to Honor Their Promise Not to Cut Jobs at Budweiser Brewery in Baldwinsville

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today called on the Belgian brewer InBev, who recently announced that they will be acquiring Anheuser-Busch, to honor their promise not to cut jobs at their North American breweries which includes the Budweiser Brewery in Baldwinsville, New York. In a letter sent today to InBev CEO Carlos Brito, Senator Clinton stressed the importance of the Baldwinsville brewery to the economy of Central New York and to the approximately 1,000 employees as well as the retirees who depend on the continued success of the brewery. Clinton also highlighted the valuable role Budweiser has played over the last 25 years in supporting the region's local community and charitable organizations, and expressed her desire that InBev would maintain that valuable relationship.

"The Budweiser brewery has played a key role in Baldwinsville and Central New York for the last quarter century as a catalyst for economic growth and as a partner in building the identity of the region," said Senator Clinton. "It is my sincere hope that InBev recognizes that they have a first-class operation and amazing workforce here in Baldwinsville, and I look forward to seeing InBev continue the wonderful partnership the brewery and the community have cultivated."

Dear Mr. Brito:

As you finalize the details of your purchase of Anheuser-Busch, I am pleased to hear that you intend to keep all 12 of the company's U.S. breweries open and maintain all current jobs nationwide. This is welcome news to the people of Central New York and especially to the Baldwinsville employees, nearly 1,000 hard-working men and women as well as the retirees whose livelihood depends on the continued success of this brewery.

For 25 years, this brewery has been a pillar, not only in the economy of Central New York, but also in the community. Indeed, the Baldwinsville brewery has forged a strong bond with the region by partnering with the community in many charitable and social initiatives that have benefited the citizens of Central New York. Anheuser-Busch's long history of community service makes it clear that its continued presence in Central New York is not only vital to the regional economy, but also to the communities throughout the area.

I would urge InBev to continue the strong legacy of job creation and local partnership that the Baldwinsville brewery has created, and I am hopeful that this new venture will be an opportunity for growth, both for your company and for the State of New York. As this issue continues to move forward, I would be pleased to partner with you in helping ensure that your commitment to the Anheuser Bush employees and people of the entire region is realized. If you have any questions, or desire further information, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Hillary Rodham Clinton
