My Plan

The Arizona Republic editorial board endorsed me in my 2004 election for this district by saying, "Don't vote for him. He's an extremist." I was quite honored. They were quite correct. Government is the accepted solution to every problem we face today. It is an extreme position nowadays to propose freedom as the answer to every problem faced by individuals in our society. To point the finger of blame at government at all levels for all problems. Practicing freedom from government is even a serious crime in the United States .

There are two kinds of people on this planet: Those who wish to be left alone. Those who won't leave them alone. It is time to realize that governments take far more from you than they return. If they provide anything positive at all (like what?). And if they do, you can bet private enterprise can provide it cheaper and better in ALL cases.

Don't believe me?

Governments steal your income, directly, when you make purchases of goods and services, and afterwards when you possess property. No source of property is safe from government confiscation. Any resistance on your part is dealt with brutally and even deadly. And afterwards, government then taxes you by making what money it allows you to keep worth less and less each year though built in inflation into the currency, to taxes on raw goods and manufacturers of items eventually on their way to you, to regulations, excises and blockades whose costs of goods are always passed on to you. What little money government allows you to keep is eaten away so it buys even less.

And what do you get in return for this theft?

You generally get to live unmolested. Oh sure, your activities are monitored. You must get permission to act. And your Rights are ignored—superseded by the desires of the state.

Lest you think this is a rant, consider a passage from the Declaration of Independence: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Or how about the Arizona Constitution: 2. Political power; purpose of government

Section 2. All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights.

That was it. No list of other things comes after. Government, at least in Arizona , has no other purpose than to protect your Rights.

Elected and appointed officials (legislators, governors, judges, etc.) take an oath to uphold and defend the Arizona Constitution as their sacred and primary duty. Then they accept and cash the taxpayer funded checks. And from the moment they take office, the only thing Constitutions serve is in wiping their hind quarters. Governments in Arizona do everything but protect an individual's rights. There is no power of which they can conceive that they do not grasp. No demand upon you unmade. No act on you forbidden. They are sovereign over you, and you had better respect their authority or you will be made example.

So under their "leadership" we find ourselves: 1. Hated and feared by the planet for as the "world's only remaining superpower" (bully) our launching an unprovoked invasion and occupation of a nation that posed no threat to us. Your tax money is handed over to dictators and despots around the globe who will do our bidding, and to opposition groups (terrorists) who oppose dictators and despots who will not do our bidding. Either way, when you hand money to one side, you buy enemies on the others. Any kid in grade school with a bag of candy usually quickly learns once the candy runs out you can't buy your friends. Some kids instead learn you just make sure the candy never runs out ... they go on to become politicians. You supply the candy.

2. A bankrupt nation with unending and increasing national debt. $9 trillion in direct debt. Up to $37 trillion in current and future interest, encumbrance and entitlement debt added (Don't take my word. Read the U.S. Comptroller.). One thing is certain, these amounts are growing, not falling. Twelve years of Republican control of the purse strings, and five years of Republican control of all three branches of government have produced zero fiscal responsibility. They have shown themselves just as happy to be at the trough gorging themselves on your earnings as their Democratic predecessors. And just as eager to run up the federal credit card. $46.4 trillion dollars! This represents a burden of over $400,000 per household. There is no way for our country to recover from this debt. Collapse is eminent. It is only a question of when, for how long and how are YOU going to survive? Don't expect the government to help. They did this to you. And you let them. Are you really going to vote for incumbents? Again? And do you really think the other major opponent is going to be any different? If voting could change things it would be illegal.

3. We live in a police state. The rule of law is a joke where the King's men ranging from cops to minor bureaucrats to presidents can run roughshod over ANY individual's Rights with impunity and expect no punishment. Government thugs are likely to be awarded a medal or a nice chauffer driven limousine government promotion. With the Patriot Act, National Security Act, spying on our bank accounts, our e-mails, our phone calls, partial strip searches at airports, urged to spy on your neighbors, government permission required to work, to travel, to alter your property, free speech zones, jailed without charges, without being able to let anyone know, without access to a lawyer, in solitary confinement for years, torture derived evidence admitted, warrantless searches ... I could keep on writing.

The stated sole purpose of our government is to protect individuals rights.

The real purpose of government is to steal as much of your earnings and freedoms as possible. This has always been government's purpose once government expands beyond the town hall of unanimous uncoerced consent.

Government never protects, it only consumes. It consumes you. It is only a question of when you are ready to put a stop to the consumption, and realize you can get along just fine without government.

My plan to save the nation's economy (at the federal level):

1. Reduce the debt now, while you can.

A. Terminate virtually ALL federal employees within three years, with the majority being let go in the first year.

B. Sell off ALL assets of the federal government. All lands, buildings and equipment to the highest bidders.

C. Bring home ALL our military and their equipment from around the world. Thank them, and send them home to their families and jobs.

D. End ALL foreign aid. Mind our own business abroad. Stop interfering in American business' abroad or at home. Boot the United Nations out of our nation, and sell their buildings.

E. End ALL entitlement programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Prescription Drug Benefits, Welfare, and all government "guarantee" programs ("insurance" on bank deposits, bank loans, pensions, agriculture, mining, etc.).

F. End ALL federal pensions. They are backed up by the full faith and credit of the US Government ... and that faith and credit are over.

G. Cancel most government contracts and ALL grants.

H. End ALL subsidies (corporate welfare). End all government expenditures, except for those items explicitly called for in the Constitution, and those should be reduced to their minimal compliance. Then start looking to see if you really need even that amount of government.

2. Roll the federal laws back to say pre-1830. Anything newer is null and void. Just what federal laws enacted after 1830 did we need? Then work to eliminate the laws that are left. This of course, automatically eliminates ALL federal regulations, since such things are a recent federal creation. Only the Congress is granted the power to pass laws. Nor can they pass this power onto the Executive Branch. So, Congress is responsible for explaining to the Executive how they expect their laws to be enforced. Your money just became worth A LOT more.

3. Eliminate ALL taxation of individuals, property, manufacture and services.

Government can be allowed to collect a single flat tariff rate on all property at the point of import into the country as its sole revenue source. I would suggest the rate be capped at a maximum of 4%. Any budget deficits should be made the personal liability of the national elected officials. They want more money, let them hold a bake sale.

4. Eliminate the centralized banking system. Not only is it unconstitutional, but it is a fascist concept that has no place in our nation. The Constitution permits the federal government to coin money, not to print it. The founders knew full well what eventually happened to ALL nation's economies that allowed their government to print currency. It is what has happened to ours.

Outcome

Whether or not my plan is implemented several things will come to pass. Foremost, the US currency (Fiat money) will become near to completely worthless depending upon how the government responds to the economic collapse and the demand for payment from our foreign creditors. There is nothing you can do to prevent this collapse. But you can start to force yourself and all of those dependent upon the taxpayer tit to deal with the impending loss of their personal worth now while they have worth to reposition. It will be painful for all but the most wealthy. The pain will vary with an individual's current debt load, and what real and monetary assets a person has and in what form those assets take. If the form is US dollars, then they are completely broke. If the form is property people are willing to exchange, that property increases in value.

Whether you like what I have to say or not is immaterial. This disaster will devastate most everyone, but if you plan now the pain can be minimized in duration. One of the first steps is killing off and selling off the apparatus responsible for getting you into this mess in the first place ... and in case you have not been reading it is not the Libertarian Party that has been eating at your wallet, or even trying to get at your wallet.

With this plan the federal government is all but gone. Shrunk down to a lean, mean US Constitutionally specified duties machine, and no more. The economy is going to collapse, just like it did in the 1930's. Nothing can prevent that. But this will start the recovery before the collapse, as our national debt will fall, projected debt will fall, and investors will be strongly tempted to invest in America . With the end to taxation and regulation, both foreign investment and the American economic engine, unfettered, will crank out goods and services to the planet at rates above the WWII level. We can recover within three years or twelve depending upon whether you want the government dragging it out as before, or not. The pain levels will be the same ... really, really bad ... but the duration much shorter with this plan.

What can I personally do to survive the collapse?

This is somewhat beyond this purview, but I will offer my opinion. There are two schools of thought. If money will become worthless, then you should try to accumulate money (savings) now equivalent to your debt AND make all the purchases you want provided you have the cash on hand to pay off your debt as soon as the economy tanks. Or what you purchase is the kind of items that no one wants back or can get back because they have little resale value. Truthfully, if you assess what is on your property you will come to the conclusion little you own is of great resale value. With this, when the dollar becomes worthless, you write your checks to pay off your debts, which are fixed by contract. [Warning: Government may change the rules ex post facto as it frequently does.]

The other school of thought, and the one I advocate is to pay off your debts, if you can. Pay off your credit cards, as they are the highest interest.

Pay off your car, and have all repairs necessary to keep it going for a couple of years. Best to have a vehicle older then 3 years (not much interest in confiscation), but new enough that it doesn't suck money out of your wallet in either gas or annual maintenance (less than 8 years). Remember, you may need to live out of the vehicle for a couple of years.

The Mormon's push their members to stock a years worth of food on hand. A great idea. You can start building this supply up gradually of the long shelf life food you like to eat. This can have resale value, as well.

Get any medical or dental work done now that you need.

If you can pay off your house. Nothing like knowing you can keep a roof over your head. Fix up the house. You can rent rooms. If it has a yard, consider a vegetable garden. You can sell excess. A fence out front (assuming you already have a backyard fence) now can protect your garden later.

If you still have money left over, I would get out of the stock market (except petroleum and mineral stocks). I would think about gold and other precious metals (remember any purchase over $3,000 per month gets reported), Canadian dollars (you can set up a checking account online with a credit card - but changes in "terrorism" banking laws now make foreign banks leery of opening accounts for Americans), and check out the commodities markets.

How do you plan to defend you and your family, your car, your home, your property?

Assess your talents, skills and what you have to offer in a barter based world. Fix cars, homes, educate, cook, .... Start thinking about a barter economy. You have to think about your personal economy without the dollar.

Finally if you are wealthy, then stand by with the gold, because a fire sale is coming and you can snatch up all the art work, material goods and land at bargain prices after the fall. I never got a job from a poor man. It is the wealthy who will rebuild the economy. Unfortunately, an awful lot of wealthy people have been great supporters of those who help themselves to others earnings at the point of a gun. Frequently because they buy the favoritism of nice juicy contracts and tax shelters. I have no respect for the wealthy who have no respect or courage for investing and competing in a free market, as opposed to paying for favors in a regulated economy.
