Congressman Terry comments on Economic Stimulus Tax Rebate Checks
Congressman Terry (R-NE) wants to remind all Nebraskans that the Internal Revenue Service has begun distributing tax rebate checks. Checks will be deposited electronically into taxpayers' accounts starting this week. Paper checks will be mailed to taxpayers who do not use direct deposit beginning in mid-May. These payments were a part of the economic stimulus package passed by Congress in February.
"These checks put money back in the pockets of hard working middle class families when they need it most. Many Nebraskans are feeling the pinch of higher gas prices, increasing food costs and skyrocketing medical bills. This stimulus plan is more than just the rebate checks, it also gives businesses incentives to grow and add more jobs at a critical time in the slow down of the U.S. economy. These steps, and a commitment not to raise taxes are what we need to get the economy moving again," said Congressman Terry.
