Date: June 20, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representative Marion Berry today announced that The Delta Regional Airport Authority will receive $2.8 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation. As a part of the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems, the money will be used to begin construction on a new regional airport in order to meet anticipated aviation demand for the Forrest City and Wynne areas.

"These federal dollars will help meet the needs of travelers in this growing area of East Arkansas," said Lincoln. "The airport will be a positive addition and an economic tool for the region, and I'm pleased to help announce these funds."

"Transportation and economic development go hand in hand," said Pryor. "This worthwhile investment will address the growing infrastructure needs of Forrest City and Wynne."

"A major attraction for industries looking for new locations is accessibility," said Berry. "In a time when all rural areas struggle to create and maintain jobs, investments like this will give these communities a significant boost for economic development."
