Statement from Sen. Wicker Commemorating D-Day Anniversary

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., issued the following statement on June 6, 2008, the 64th anniversary of D-Day:

"Sixty-four years ago today, thousands of American soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy, part of a coalition of allied forces that would go on to liberate Europe and end the evil of Hitler's Nazi regime.

"The brave Americans who participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy helped define what has rightfully become known as the Greatest Generation. Mississippi, with our longstanding commitment to our nation's military, is home to tens of thousands of veterans, many of whom landed in Normandy sixty-four years ago. Today is a day for all Mississippians to honor these veterans for their bravery and courage, and to thank them once again for their sacrifice to our country."
