CARNEY STATEMENT ON US AIRWAYS DECISION FOR WILLIAMSPORT REGIONAL AIRPORT

Congressman Christopher P. Carney issued the following statement on US Airways service cancellation for the Williamsport, PA airport:

I was disappointed to learn that US Airways will cease service to Williamsport this fall. As the sole commercial carrier in Lycoming County, they have provided a vital service to our community and local businesses.

Certainly, the high price of fuel is affecting us all and causing many commercial airlines to reduce services. However, in rural regions like ours, access to commercial aviation is especially needed and I will continue to work with local officials in Williamsport and Lycoming County as well as my colleagues on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to fight for access to commercial air service.
