KENNEDY SPOKESPERSON ON SENATE PASSAGE OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

Anthony Coley, spokesman for Senator Edward M. Kennedy, released the following statement today on Senate passage of the Supplemental Appropriations package, including an extension of unemployment benefits. Kennedy, Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, authored legislation in January to temporarily extend these benefits for millions of Americans.

"Today's vote is a tremendous victory for millions of American families who desperately need help during this economic downturn. By passing this measure by a veto-proof majority, the Senate sent a loud and clear message to the American people: more help is on the way."
