U.S. Supreme Court Gun Ruling

Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE) today issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to throw out the ban on handguns in the District of Columbia.

"The Supreme Court made the absolute right decision today. I am glad they resolved the issue that law-abiding citizens have the right to possess firearms for self-defense purposes. The District of Columbia gun law was far too restrictive and the Court decided correctly that it violated the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution," said Congressman Lee Terry.

The Court also noted that firearm prohibitions for felons, mentally ill persons, or carrying firearms in sensitive places like schools or government buildings, or imposing certain conditions on the commercial sale of firearms would still be permitted.
